You see all these wall mount tv vids but there’s zilch on wall guards to prevent a tv knocking against wall such as a rubber bar on back of tv or wall

I rate this technique. You need to make some slack so you can wrap the button to make a shank -- these are thick trousers -- but you also (or I do as a novice sewer) want to pull tight to make sure your stitches are all secure and even. I found a match a little too much slack, so I used a narrow cable tie. I think the lack of this part is why my hand-sewn trouser buttons wouldn't stay on so long, just buttoning the trousers puts a lot of pressure on the thread. With this method all that pressure is relieved. One thing I would say is don't just put the button where it used to be, zip up the trousers and check. The original button placement maybe wasn't so great. Just as a note, the alternative way I've seen is ua-cam.com/video/rQRq--7InTE/v-deo.html using two dressmakers pins. But most people can find a match (or similar) in a pinch and maybe don't have dressmakers pins available. Also, you don't stick yourself with the pins this way!
